When two countries meet in a castle park – a unique wedding story in Alsópetény
Love stories begin in many different ways.
Some start in a café, at a conference, or in a university lecture hall. Anna and Emily’s story, however, began on an American university campus.
Both are doctors. Anna came from Hungary for a several-month professional research programme, while Emily arrived from the United Kingdom. They were brought together by a joint research project, and although they originally planned to stay in the United States for only a few months, it quickly became clear that their connection meant much more.
Years later, they were searching for the perfect place to celebrate their wedding.

The wedding eventually welcomed nearly 90 guests.
Visitors arrived from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Hungary.
For many, it was their first time in Hungary, so it was important for the couple that the wedding also served as a cultural experience.

Welcome reception with gypsy music in the castle courtyard
On the wedding day, guests gathered in the elegant courtyard of the castle.
The atmosphere of the reception was made special by authentic Hungarian gypsy music. The musicians played as guests arrived, offering international visitors an immediate introduction to one of Hungary’s most iconic musical traditions.
Over champagne and light bites, guests slowly took their places before walking through the castle park toward the lake.
Ceremony by the castle lake
The ceremony took place by the lake in the castle park.
It was conducted by a bilingual celebrant speaking both English and Hungarian, ensuring that all guests could fully follow the proceedings.
A harpist played in the background, creating a particularly intimate atmosphere.
When the two brides held hands and said “I do”, the silence of the castle park was broken only by the sound of the harp and the emotional applause of the guests.
Hungarian flavours at the castle dinner
One of the couple’s key requests for the wedding dinner was to introduce Hungarian cuisine to their international guests.
The menu therefore consisted of traditional Hungarian dishes, presented in a modern style.
Throughout the evening, dishes were served that showcased both the character and elegance of Hungarian gastronomy.
After dinner, the celebration continued in the castle park, where guests danced until dawn.
A multi-day experience for international guests
Since many guests travelled from afar, several of them stayed in Alsópetény for multiple nights.
The castle team also helped organise additional programmes:

For many guests, it was especially exciting to explore the Hungarian capital while based in a rural castle.
